A person who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "rapidly".
She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor said objects including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor said the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the police once more.
She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
