Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
An important political figure stated the attack left him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
